Oyster Pointer Salutes: The Mole Hole: Dig up a one-of-a-kind treasure
By Ryan R. Kinser

Stumbling upon the must-have collectible or fashion you have been searching for, or did not yet know you wanted, happens to us all,” says Regina Petit, owner of The Mole Hole at City Center at Oyster Point. Situated among an assortment of shops, restaurants, offices and residences, The Mole Hole has continued to peak the community’s curiosity and meet its demand for one-of-a-kind treasures.

“The Mole Hole is a celebration of all things unique,” says Petit. “We offer an opportunity to step into a comfortable, welcoming shopping experience that features products that are new and exciting to customers.” The placement of merchandise throughout the store allows customers to “connect and explore.” Everything is hand picked from markets across the United States with attention to selecting items that are not otherwise available on the Peninsula or are particularly difficult to locate.

As displayed merchandise is layered, it may take several strolls to catch a glimpse of everything. Display pieces and furnishings are available for purchase, so the store features a “daily changing aesthetic that appeals to returning customers,” explains Petit. New merchandise arrives daily with a particular focus on stocking new products that have not been in the store before.

Customer favorites are continuously featured, though, including Onesole, the popular brand of interchangeable shoes. Women’s handbags, jewelry crafted by Mediterranean artists, sunglasses and apparel are available as well, including popular fashions decorated with Swarovski crystals. Children’s clothing, toys and accessories are also available in limited quantities, with a keen focus on one-of-a-kind selections, as is the case with all merchandise throughout The Mole Hole.

Framed prints, hand-made decorations, decorative travel bags, hand-painted tables and carefully crafted couches and ottomans are featured. Pop-up occasion cards, and electric fireplaces may also be found. Gentlemen are sure to appreciate the diverse selection of wall clocks with musical functions, as well.

Complimentary gift-wrapping, featuring hand-made bows, is available for anyone looking to add a touch of elegance to his purchases. “The Mole Hole is the perfect place to locate a gift,” says Petit.

Petit also operates two additional Mole Hole locations in Williamsburg, with the first opening nearly nine year ago in Monticello. The addition of the store in City Center is “the perfect extension of the business,” says Petit. “We have been well received and continue to flourish among a diversified collection of shopping options.” Petit credits the dynamic promotional events, location among over 800 businesses in Oyster Point and a savvy consumer base in Newport News and beyond for the continued interest in The Mole Hole.

Originating as a gift store in Michigan nearly 40 years ago, The Mole Hole franchise has grown to feature locations throughout the United States. Each location is unique in design and merchandise. After visiting her first Mole Hole in Lafayette, LA, Petit was interested in growing the concept into what it is today.
